We believe this mission starts from the inside, by building a global team of employees that respects and supports each other, reflects the communities where we work and live and the diversity of the customers we serve. As we’ve grown to over 23,000 employees, representing more than 140 nationalities located in more than 30 countries, we remain committed to promoting inclusion around the world. We embrace a diverse workforce that includes people of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, veteran status, abilities, and those who bring diversity of thought, opinion, experience, and leadership styles — and all other characteristics — that make people unique.

We’re committed to equity

We’ve achieved 100% global gender pay equity and U.S. ethnic pay equity for four years in a row, and we remain committed to advancing equity at every level.

In October of 2018, we launched our Diverse Hiring Initiative with the aim of bringing in external diverse talent at the Director+ level through the introduction of diverse candidate slates in the recruiting process. In 2019, 34% of our open positions were filled by externally sourced diverse candidates. Given Inclusion continues to be one of our core values at PayPal, we are excited to announce that in 2020 the Diverse Hiring initiative expanded to all roles to ensure we have a diverse candidate slate in the recruiting process.

We’re committed to progress and transparency

As part of a larger commitment to advance racial equity, we recently committed $15 million to strengthen our internal diversity and inclusion programs to foster greater awareness, build equity, and support recruiting, hiring and career advancement of Black and minority employees. This also includes increased funding for our Employee Resource Groups as well as supporting our community partners through pro bono work and secondments by our employees.

Our diversity data is a critical measure for how we assess our performance in building a truly inclusive workforce throughout all parts of the Company. We report on our diversity numbers in our Global Impact Report and regularly review best practices to ensure we provide transparent reporting and disclosures on our workforce demographics. Since 2015, we have made various improvements in diversity at PayPal:
